Tropical Storm Phanfone Forecast to Strengthen in the Western Pacific Ocean

Shared by IMSG

Tropical Storm Phanfone located east of Guam is forecast to slowly strengthen in a favorable environment as it travels toward the northern Marianas over the next three days. After passing over the islands rapid intensification should take place as the storm curves northward as a broad, deep, mid-latitude trough develops. Peak sustained winds are forecast to be near 125 knots on Friday with rapid intensification a distinct possibility. This image was taken by JMA MTSAT-2 at 0430Z on September 29, 2014.
