Emergency Management

Hazard emergency management

Instructor: Mr. Leo Bosner
Earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and other disasters can threaten lives, health, properties of citizens, and disrupt the economy of an entire region. While it may not be possible to halt these disasters in their entirety, steps can be taken to significantly reduce their impacts.

This course will discuss four key elements of disaster management: 1) mitigation to prevent or reduce the impact of future disasters; 2) preparedness before the disaster occurs; 3) response to rescue survivors and to protect property immediately after the disaster, and 4) recovery to rebuild stronger and more efficiently after the disaster. The course will discuss hazard analysis, security/law enforcement, public information and warning, interagency coordination, incident command system (ICS), donations management, and preparing disaster response plans. At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will have developed the awareness for disaster management issues in their own jurisdictions.
