MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES - Success Stories
Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP)
Located throughout the U.S. and U.S. Territories, our Coral Reef experts provide a wide range of scientific, technical and programmatic support for CRCP. They coordinate and train local communities in coral reef conservation, promote environmental friendly practices to reduce pollution to coastal water, and provide recommendations for environmental policies.
For the Coral Reef Fellowship Program, IMSG employs fellows in the seven jurisdictions with shallow coral: Florida, Puerto Rico, USVI, Hawaii, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. Our fellows are key partners to the local communities in support of a range of activities from watershed management to outreach and education.
Fisheries habitat conservation
IMSG experts support NOAA in their efforts to conserve and enhance habitats for fishery resources, protected species and other living marine resources. Our experts coordinate and support local communities, state and local governments, and conservation organizations to restore degraded habitats, transfer restoration technologies to other agencies and practitioners, and foster habitat stewardship.
Coastal services center (CSC)
IMSG experts help NOAA CSC coordinate and train coastal communities (including Pacific Islands) in coastal hazard vulnerability assessment and planning (e.g., for hurricanes, tsunamis, and sea level rise), protection of coastal ecosystems and fisheries habitats, and sustainable development. IMSG experts also collect data (e.g., coastal hazard data and vulnerability assessment) and develop geospatial analysis tools (e.g., coastal inundation simulations) for the understanding of coastal problems and developing mitigation strategies.
