Staff Scientist (Microwave Remove Sensing)

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a Federal Government Contractor located in Rockville, Maryland is currently looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR).  IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors.  This task is to support Development of the Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) for POES, DMPS, GPM, Megha-Tropiques, NPP, and JPSS Applications

Duties:

• Support and lead NOAA/NESDIS scientist(s) in developing the methodology, algorithm theoretical basis, and data product generation systems
• Provide guidance and scientific directions to assess and improve MiRS performances in the sounding, hydrometeors and surface retrievals.
• Provide support to the MiRS meetings, reviews and other briefing to upper management.

Qualifications:

• MS or above degree in atmospheric science or related field
• Extensive knowledge in passive remote sensing: sounding and imaging using variational/physical algorithms
• Familiarity with MiRS 1DVAR technology (a plus).
• Thorough knowledge in remote sensing and related phenomena
• Experience in radiative transfer;
• Familiarity with calibration/validation processes
• Familiarity with Eigenvalue decomposition (a plus)
• Experience developing algorithms for temperature, water vapor and other atmospheric profiles (cloud, rain, ice), skin temperature, surface emissivity
• Ability and/or motivation to implement new ideas
• Software skills in IDL and Fortran
• Publications in the field.
